ACTION PLAN
For Passage & Implementation of the Rockville Wildlife Corridor Proposal
GETTING STARTED
GREEN TEAM VOLUNTEERS
MEMBERSHIP IN THE NATIVE PLANT NETWORK
- Present and support passage of proposed ordinance to Rockville Mayor & Council, establishing Native Plant Network.
- Adoption of an existing mapping system for citizens who voluntarily choose to identify their property as a link in Maryland’s native plant and animal corridors initiative.
- Establish a volunteer registration and census report on specific native plant species on specific properties with the intent of it being integrated into the ‘native plant mapping system’ mentioned above.
- Establish a rating/ranking system that citizens can use to voluntarily claim credit for achieving a measurable level of native species #s and approximate sq ft coverage on their property to be updated annual by each willing participant.
- Establish a volunteer network of citizens willing to share their native plant knowledge, seeds, seedlings or grown plants with others.
- Create a volunteer board to manage and adapt this effort as it evolves.
- Reduce, modify, or eliminate any city landscaping codes that would inhibit or measurably reduce the goal of this effort and it’s needed to thrive.
- Identify any specific economic costs to the city government and its taxpayers that this project might incur and find alternative funding sources.
- Identify any specific economic benefit costs to the city government where this project will save taxpayers money.
